The Story
Every maison begins with a vision. MARISSENCE began with something much simpler: a young girl learning to do her own hair.
At fourteen, I moved to the United Kingdom with my family. We were beginning again as fresh immigrants, and my mother devoted herself to building a new life for us. With work demanding so much of her time, I gradually learnt to care for my own hair. What began as a necessity became a fascination. I taught myself how to install and style wigs, learning through patience, repetition and countless hours of practice. What I first learnt for myself soon became a craft I wanted to perfect.
At sixteen, I decided to give that craft a future. I had £40: £10 intended for my lunch and £30 for transportation for myself and my little sister that week. Instead of spending it, I chose to invest it. I purchased the materials I needed to begin taking clients and, with that small sum, took my first step into hairstyling. It was not a grand beginning, but it was mine. I had no large investment behind me, only a vision, determination and the belief that something beautiful could be built from very little.
As my experience grew, so did my standards. Every pound I earned from hairstyling was saved and reinvested into my craft. I began searching for hair that reflected the quality I wanted to offer, exploring vendors and carefully evaluating the hair for myself. I introduced it to my clients and listened to their experiences over time: how it felt, how it moved, how it styled, how it washed and, most importantly, how it endured. Their honest feedback became part of my process and allowed me to refine my standards until I found the quality I was proud to place beneath the MARISSENCE name.
Today, at eighteen, after more than a year of planning, researching, testing and refining, that vision is finally leaving the pages it once lived on. MARISSENCE is the culmination of years of learning, quiet persistence and an unwavering belief in what I could create. What began with a young girl learning to install her own wig has evolved into a maison dedicated to the art of hair.
At the heart of MARISSENCE is the woman herself. Not simply how she looks, but how she feels when she looks in the mirror. Each wig is created with the understanding that beauty is deeply personal. Every woman carries a different story, enters different chapters of her life and expresses her femininity in her own way. A wig may change her appearance, but the woman wearing it is what gives it meaning. Every piece becomes a part of her story.
The swan was chosen as the symbol of MARISSENCE for its quiet elegance and enduring symbolism. Graceful yet powerful, delicate yet resilient, the swan embodies femininity without fragility. It represents loyalty, transformation and the beauty of becoming. There is something timeless in the way a swan carries itself: it does not need to compete for attention. Its presence speaks for itself.
This is the spirit of MARISSENCE. Beauty without excess. Femininity without limitation. Luxury that is felt as much as it is seen.
I believe that the beginning does not need to be perfect to be meaningful. Sometimes, all you have is a small amount of money, an idea that no one else can see yet, and the courage to begin anyway. At sixteen, I invested the £40 I had into a future I could only imagine. At eighteen, I am watching that imagination become tangible.
MARISSENCE is the result of choosing to believe in something before it had a name, a collection or a place in the world.
It is my beginning, my evolution and my vision, brought to life.
